Are fashion trucks the next foods trucks? When we started The Fashion Mobile we weren’t thinking about that at all. We were just thinking a fashion truck would be a great way to open a store without a traditional brick and mortar space. But as more and more people have found out about this emerging trend, selling fashion instead of food, it got me thinking.
I mean, a couple of years ago food trucks were just starting to get really popular. There were some that did well but there just wasn’t that many of them. Then all of a sudden things just took off! Food trucks were popping up all over the place. Everything from fish tacos, pulled pork sandwiches and cupcakes to wood fired pizzas and gourmet burgers.
The growth rate must be huge in that industry and for good reason. If you want to start a food sale business it has to be a heck of a lot cheaper to do it in a truck than to actually open a restaurant. I’ve read that it takes anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 to open a food truck compared to $500,000 and more for an actual restaurant space. So are fashion trucks on that same path? I think so. Starting The Fashion Mobile in 3 months was a whirlwind of activity! My wife and I did so much in a short amount of time that it has all been a blur. But it also has been a lot of fun doing it. We didn’t get into too many fights or arguments about how it should look either. That was mainly because I just did what she said and stayed out of the way!
Seriously though we did put this together pretty fast and we are very pleased with how everything turned out. Considering we didn’t even have a truck or know where to even find one to going to our first show last night I think that we did pretty good. So what exactly did we have to do? Let me tell you.

“A mobile boutique? What’s that?” That is usually the response we get when we tell people what we are starting with The Fashion Mobile. I tell them basically it is a store inside of a truck. It’s like a food truck but we sell merchandise instead of food! How’s that for something new?!
We picked up the truck last Friday and I have to say that I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I was very nervous about how the color would look. We picked the color from a swatch that was only about 2″ x 4″ long. And there are no do-overs if we didn’t like the color. But it turned out better than expected. The finish is semi-gloss too so it looks super shiny!

Starting The Fashion Mobile, like any business, involves many decisions and choices. What truck do we buy? What merchandise are we selling? What’s our logo going to look like? What’s the interior of the truck look like? Where are we taking the truck? On and on and on…
I have to say one of the biggest decisions of starting this business is the COLOR of the truck! At first I was thinking pink and black but I used to own a store, Doozie Chic Boutique, and my colors were pink and black. I thought I needed a change but still wanted it to be girly, fun and bright. When the truck is driving down the road I want it to turn heads and have people asking “who or what is that”?

The most important items in your wardrobe are ACCESSORIES!! With accessories you can take a dull outfit and make it fabulous! The Fashion Mobile will be loaded with accessories. There will be jewelry, scarves, hats and purses; everything you need to spice up your clothing. I love taking a basic outfit and adding that key item or two to make it POP!
Recently I had on my favorite outfit…black pants, black tank and a black sweater and added a hot pink scarf and big hoop earrings. It went from ninja suit to stylish in one quick swoop! So if you don’t want to buy all of the bright colorful dresses and blouses you are seeing everywhere right now, just buy some fun, colorful accessories and you will be sure to put a splash in your summer wardrobe.
